Our design language is focused around aerial transportation to symbolize taking off and going places. Our leading motif combines a paper airplane with the pen tool, an iconic symbol of modern graphic design. With help from my fellow designers Joyce Tsui and Esther Liu, I created a final logo that incorporates the paper airplane, our brand colors, and the letters "C" and "L" into a cohesive shape. This Instagram post outlines the steps in our design process.
Our mascot, Finn, is a Channel Islands fox, a species that is only found on the Channel Islands off the shore of our native Santa Barbara. He is the friendly face of the organization, symbolizing intelligence and resourcefulness and reinforcing the blue and orange color scheme. I went through a number of different iterations to make sure that Finn's design would work from any angle for a variety of graphics.

Unlike a traditional company, SBCL is an organization focused on student designers and artists, so we want to showcase the diversity of skills and styles on our team through our promotional graphics. We created our design language to maintain a cohesive set of guidelines while still allowing for a wide range of creativity, resulting in a less uniform but more exciting and varied look overall.
